East Java Investival 2020 (EJI 2020) which was held at the Ballroom of the Sheraton Hotel Surabaya, Thursday (27/11/2020), was a success. This grand event, which exhibited many promising investment opportunities in East Java, became a wasp of the gong that resonated with both domestic and foreign investors.
This activity was held in a hybrid manner with business meetings, offline exhibitions and also presenting speakers from the Indonesian ambassador to Australia, the British ambassador to Indonesia and also foreign investors who joined virtually.
Apart from that, this activity was also carried out by a Business Forum, One on One Business Meeting, Matchmaking, and Virtual Exhibition.
East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa who attended the event said that this activity would be an entry point for potential investors who wish to invest successfully in East Java.
“The EJI 2020 which is held by this hybrid is like we are beating a gong, which is part of our starting point to expand our network to the best of our ability to increase investment in East Java,” added Khofifah.
On this occasion, Governor Khofifah emphasized that East Java Province is determined to build a halal industrial area. The reason is that currently 148 hectares of land has been prepared with a company in Sidoarjo.
Khofifah said that he wanted Indonesia, which is a country with the largest Muslim population in the world, to enter the top ten in the top 10 ranking of the world’s halal food industry.
“Indonesia has the largest number of Muslims in the world. According to the State of Global Islamic Economy 2019-2020, Indonesian halal food is not yet in the top ten in the world. If halal fashion is done. So we want to prepare a halal industrial estate,” said Khofifah.
Because the potential for halal culinary in East Java is actually very abundant. And according to Khofifah, it is very unfortunate if this potential is not maximized, because it will bring benefits if East Java can make Indonesia into the top ten.
In the halal industrial estate that is being prepared, it will be equipped with an LPPOM MUI laboratory, processing of halal certification, and also all industrial facilities. The targeted industries include food and beverages, to cosmetics.
Khofifah’s plan related to the development of halal industrial estate was also conveyed when he communicated virtually with the Head of the Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board Bahlil Lahadalia.
Khofifah also requested that East Java be included in the area declared nationally for the development of the halal industrial area after Batang and Subang.
“We will try to be able to bring in investors both from within and outside the country. Because this will be our entry point to be in the top ten, and of course to foster the welfare of society in general,” said Khofifah.
Not only talking with the Head of BKPM RI, strategic communication related to East Java investment was also discussed by Governor Khofifah by chatting virtually with the Lao Ambassador and the Indonesian Ambassador to Australia Yohanes K Legowo.
During a dialogue with the Indonesian Ambassador to Australia, Governor Khofifah said that East Java currently needs quality dairy cows to be imported from Kangaroo Country.
The news is welcomed, the Indonesian Ambassador to Australia welcomes what the Governor of East Java said and will immediately send staff to follow up on the potential investment.
“Australia is indeed superior in the field of nurseries, while Indonesia is superior in terms of fattening. We will send staff to East Java for further communication. Because here (Australia) there are quite a lot of Indonesian diasporas who have become successful entrepreneurs in cattle farming, and this is an opportunity, ”said Yohanes K Legowo.
The potential for cow breeding can be done in quite a number of areas in East Java. Starting from Malang, also Magetan, which already has a mature infrastructure in developing the milk industry. In addition, there are still many investment potentials offered in EJI 2020, including the potential for investment in integrated poultry farming and the Wonocolo geopark as an environmentally friendly investment in Bojonegoro Regency.
At the EJI 2020 event, a strategic agreement was also signed. Namely the signing of the Letter of Intent (LoI) between PT JGU East Java and Shire Oak (energy sector), as well as PT JGU East Java and PT RSM Tuban with Serco Asia Pacific (health sector) and also signing the MoU on the supply of raw materials for the seaweed industry and processing industry. porang.
Even in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, East Java has not stopped trying to increase investment entering East Java both from within and from abroad. This is the aim of the East Java Provincial Government to be able to regenerate the economy which was weakened by the pandemic.
In order to maximize these efforts, East Java millennials are also collaborating to promote East Java investment opportunities through East Java Investment Ambassadors. They also act as communicators, especially for potential foreign investors.
Head of the East Java Province One Stop Investment and Integrated Service (DPM PTSP) Aris Mukiyono said the 2020 EJI event was predicted to encourage increased investment realization in East Java.

Throughout 2020, despite being hit by the pandemic, investment realization in East Java still grows positively. In the January to September 2020 period, investment performance in East Java recorded an encouraging growth, which was 42.1 percent compared to the same period last year.
“The actual investment reached Rp. 66.49 trillion with a share of PMDN of Rp. 47.39 trillion and PMA of Rp. 19.10 trillion. PMA is dominated by the Chemical Industry sector in Tuban Regency from Singapore, namely PT Pertamina Rosneft Processing and Petrochemicals, ”he continued.
